I have made what feels like some great bounds of progress since the last update!
The biggest of which is that we have a Steam page!!!!!! ๐
It feels like I just whipped something up for cover art, but there were some elements about it that I put particular thought into the composition. I wanted the cover art to be a suitable representative of the RPG/Adventure genre, and found that other games in that genre had focused-in imagery of the main player character. The pendent in the middle is a reference to the cover-art for first book in the series. And a worn scroll in the backdrop is a reference to "the forbidden language".
Plus all these other things...
Tools menu with action selector
"Quick Action" button also now has a "hold to activate" option
Stealth and evasion mechanics
Projectile aiming
Campfire/inventory menu
And other things.... I'm not even gonna go into everything.
So, what can we expect to be coming up soon?
I have a new affiliate who is joining me as an intern so they can gain experience while looking for employment. I can really use the extra hands to help production pace!
I'm a speaker at GDEX! If you see me and recognize me, don't let on that you know. I'm timid and speak most confidently when I believe that folks don't know what to expect from me :)
My next significant goal is to package a demo build that can reach streamers. I need a sufficient number of wishlists prior to releasing a game on Steam since that will determine how visible it will be new players at launch.
Demo Build
The simple metric is that it needs to be a small encapsulated experience that represents the larger intended game and can act as a showcase for online traction.
I'm planning on connecting six stages that the player will follow and plan to polish them with audio, scene assets, and maybe an actual start screen.
Stage 1: Player converses with the NPC
Stage 2: Player traverses using parkour mechanics
Stage 3: Player uses stealth to avoid an aggressor
Stage 4: Player uses distraction to harvest ingredients while avoiding dangers
Stage 5: Player uses brewing to craft a potion that will aid their escape
Stage 6: Player uses potion, transition to end of demo with hook.
I am placing mechanics in an arrangement for the player interact with and using quest and hints popups to add directions.
That's all I have for now. Feel free to reach out via email if you have any question
